This 1977 Pinzgauer 712K was manufactured by Steyr-Puch in Austria, and reportedly served with the Austrian Army through its decommissioning. It was subsequently exported to the United States.
The truck is finished in matte green over a four-place cabin, and retains military storage units and shelving. Power is provided by an air-cooled 2.5-liter inline-four which drives all six wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle, two-speed transfer case, and three locking differentials. Service during current ownership included refinishing the bumpers and wheels and replacement of the tires, spark plugs, and fluids. This 712K is offered with service manual.
The 712K is the 6×6 five-door station wagon variant of the Pinzgauer all-terrain vehicle. This example was reportedly refurbished by the Austrian military in the 1990s and features front-hinged side doors, a single rear door, and a circular roof-mounted access hatch. The seller refinished the wooden rub strips and steel bumpers.
The 16″ steel wheels were refinished in darker green, and mounted replacement 245/75 Falken Wildpeak A/T tires to the six road wheels and matching spare. The truck features six-wheel independent suspension with portal gearboxes on leaf-sprung swing axles. Braking is handled by six-wheel drums.
The driver’s compartment features green vinyl upholstery, diamond-plate floor panels, German-language controls, and interior-mounted hydraulic fluid reservoirs and brake booster mounted above the pedal assembly. Instrumentation is from VDO and consists of a 120 km/h speedometer and a fuel gauge. Under 44k kilometers (~27k miles) are shown on the five digit odometer, a few hundred of which were added by the current owner.
The truck uses a 24-volt electrical system and the batteries were replaced. The rear compartment features a pair of seats, as well as storage lockers and bins for jerry cans, included radio equipment, and other accessories. The vehicle also features several exterior storage lockers which are shown in the gallery.
The air-cooled 2.5-liter inline-four was factory rated at 87 horsepower with 133 lb-ft of torque and is linked with a five-speed manual transaxle. The truck has received replacement spark plugs and fresh fluids.
Pinzgauers feature a tubular central chassis, and power is sent to all six wheels via a two-speed transfer case and three sealed hydraulically-locking differentials. Accessories include a service manual, side steps, radios, and a hitch receiver.
